Connected to the base of this robot vacuum is a handheld cordless vacuum attachment to tackle stairs and couch cushions. Like the bot, this Em excesso vacuum charges and self-empties right alongside the robot in the included self-emptying, self-cleaning, and self-filling Omni Station. There’s even a drawer built into the station that stores the hand vac attachments.

Some robot vacuums also have a mopping function, so you can more effectively clean your hardwood floors and tiles without needing one of the best robot mops. More importantly, it will save you the back-breaking chore of using a traditional mop and bucket!

And while removing dog hair on carpet wasn't as impressive, it still rated high in comparison to others that we've tested. What's more, we were impressed with its mopping results, and the self-cleaning doc was a bonus.

If none of the robot vacuums above take your fancy, here are some other models worth considering. These robovacs all scored highly on test, but just didn't quite make our main guide.

The best robot vacuums from Consumer Reports’ tests are great for regular touch-ups and spot-cleaning without you having to grab your trusty upright or canister vacuums (which are better cleaners, we’ve found).

There are newer features and models that were created to avoid this, some now come with mapping tape so you can square off areas you want them to clean, others feature detailed floor-scanning, which will detect cables and areas to avoid.

Several of the top robot vacs below also double as robotic mops, but we didn’t evaluate mopping capabilities in our vacuum tests.

It has advanced mapping which our top pick overall lacks, so it can record and remember a blueprint of multiple floors of your Top 3 Automatic Vacuum Cleaners house after just a few trips; you can then label individual rooms, and tell the s9+ to clean specific rooms on specific days.

That level of smarts means a high price tag, although our tester felt it was justified by the build quality and featureset. If you're looking for a truly autonomous cleaning solution, the Roborock Qrevo Curv will deliver.

The iLife V3s Pro is the best robot vacuum you can get for less than $200. Despite its low price, the V3s Pro consistently outperformed other robot vacuums that cost three times as much. It picked up nearly all of Fido's fur in our lab tests — making it one of the best robot vacuums for pet hair — and it performed well in everyday home usage.

If your home has an equal ratio of hardwood floors to carpets then iRobot's hybrid robot mop and vacuum is tough to beat. You get a thorough clean with a mopping pad that automatically retracts atop the vacuum.

The iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ has self-emptying and auto-fill capabilities, allowing it to clean for weeks with little upkeep. Its Automóvel-Retract Mopping System lifts the mop when moving onto carpets, and its Dirt Detective system targets areas which are dirtier than others with stronger suction and scrubbing.

The Narwal Freo X Ultra is the best robot vacuum for carpet. It's a premium product, (and it's not available in the UK), but delivers the best carpet cleaning performance of any robovac we've tested. On test we found that not only did it suck up finer dust and dirt efficiently, it also scooped up larger debris – namely bits of cereal – just as well.

While it is one of the pricier models we've tested, we think the L10s Ultra's superior performance, advanced features and ease of use make it well worth the investment.
